As a young person growing up in Central Illinois, I was fortunate to have easy access to nature. My back yard was a floodplain forest, and my front yard an open field. It was a great backdrop for playing and exploring. I also had amazing parents, who ventured cross country on family vacations when that was far easier said than done.
After a rewarding public service career with New York State, I fell in love with the opportunities created by photography. My camera is a gateway to explore, discover, capture and share split-seconds when light, shadow and subject intersect. I have a particular interest in wildlife photography and spend much of my time in the Sax Zim Bog of Northern Minnesota — a rich environment for raptors, mammals, and so much more.
I hope these images will help others share the feeling I had when these moments in special places occurred. And to appreciate the beauty of wildlife and the challenges they face navigating the modern world.
